We Are Here For Humanity

Guardian Labs
  • Kenya. Baringo is at alarm state after 5 failed seasons of rain. The pastoralist community have little access to water and suffer from food shortages due to the drought.
There have been two rudimentary hand dug wells to help the community try and access water. There is a rickety wooden ladder going down into the ground. Community members (mainly women) descend the ladder and come up with dirty water which they drink directly. Three people have lost their lives down the village well.
The Kenya Red Cross is drilling for new boreholes and rehabilitating existing non-functioning water points in Baringo County. They are running health and nutrition focused outreach, essentially taking a whole hospital to outreach sites, so that people can receive vaccinations, treatment and antenatal support. Finally, the Kenya Red Cross is offering cash assistance or access to emergency food supplies, in areas without functioning markets.
